The Netherlands Malacological Society (NMV)

Lambis chiragra arthritica, Eastern-Africa © S. van Leeuwen Do you like to collect seashells along the beaches and and do their forms and diversity fascinate you? Or are you interested in land snails or fresh-water molluscs? Or do you want to enlarge your knowledge about malacology? You can come into contact with other people with the same interest at the "Nederlandse Malacologische Vereniging" (NMV) - Netherlands Malacological Society.

Malacology is the study of molluscs: seaslugs, snails and bivalves, land snails, fresh water molluscs, squids, etc. The aim of the NMV, which was founded in 1934, is to promote the study of molluscs and shells.

The society has about 600 members in The Netherlands and abroad, both professionals and other persons interested. Members are dedicated to molluscs in various ways: from a wide and general interest to a specified study on one particular area or group of species.

The society frequently organises activities like lectures and excursions. Three journals (one in Dutch and two in English) are published and the society has an extended library.
We developed a code of conduct, that we give into consideration to all persons involved in the field of malacology.

We would like to welcome you as a member of our society. The membership fee depends on the journals you want to receive and the country you live in. Might you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Secretariat.
