The Netherlands Malacological Society (NMV)

tuberculataDo you like collecting seashells and do their forms and diversity fascinate you? Are you interested in land snails or freshwater molluscs? Do you want to learn more about these beautiful and amazing creatures? You’re not alone! Get in touch with other people with the same interest, and join the  Netherlands Malacological Society (“Nederlandse Malacologische Vereniging”, NMV).

Malacology is the study of molluscs: seaslugs, snails and bivalves, land snails, freshwater molluscs, squids, etc. The aim of the NMV, founded in 1934, is to promote the study of molluscs and shells. The society has about 500 members in The Netherlands and abroad, both professionals and non-professionals. Members are dedicated to molluscs in various ways: from a wide and general interest to a specified study on one particular area or group of species.

The society frequently organises activities, like lectures and excursions. Three journals (one in Dutch and two in English) are published and the society has an extended library. We developed code of conduct, that we give into consideration to all persons involved in the field of malacology. Download our informative flyer for more information.

We would like to welcome you as a member of our society. The membership fee depends on the journals you wish to receive and the country you live in. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the secretary.
